Day Visit to Jakarta

On Monday, I flew to Jakarta to take part in a panel discussion on the 2011
World Development Report as a member of its advisory council, mainly to
talk about the ASEAN experience.  Took the opportunity to catch up with
Thant Myint-U who wrote the excellent book about Myanmar, “The River of
Lost Footsteps” over lunch.  Before returning to Singapore, I called on
former Vice President Jusuf Kalla who hosted me to tea at his residence.
He is now Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross, as always, bubbling with
ideas.
