During the weekend, I watched the movie Avatar in 3D with my girlfriend Jasmine and a couple of colleagues. Watching the blue skinned (cat-human-monkey hybrids) natives called the Na’vi of the imaginary moon ‘Pandora,’ clash with the invading Human Armarda in glorious 3D was worth the $13 weekend admission. Imagine being able to see ash and cinder ‘float’ across the screen as though you are sitting around a bonfire.
If the transition from photo stills to moving pictures or black & white to color is a yardstick for how ‘awesome’ the latest 3D technology is, it ranks up there on that scale. The person behind the movie’s 3D technology is none other than writer/ director James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator, etc). His vision of what movies could become was only actualized in the last couple of years as the technology had to be literally invented by his team.
